New tool: SecuraSend.com

Today, we're pleased to announce we've launched a new tool: Secura.
We like to keep our eye on interesting domain names that are expiring soon. Dot-com domains with short, snappy strings are pretty hard to come by these days. So when we saw securasend.com was up for grabs, we pounced. It just sounded too cool to not do something with.
With our Threat Model tool still going through rounds of testing and refinement— fingers crossed we get it pushed out soon!— tools and resources have been on our minds. A goal, from the beginning, was to host privacy-first software for others to use. With a sharp looking domain now acquired, it hit us pretty quick: why not a file sharing site?
Years back, Mozilla developed an end-to-end encrypted file sharing service called Send. Unfortunately, a few bad actors ruined it for the rest of us when they decided to start shipping malware and using Send for spear phishing attacks. Mozilla took the tool down to re-work the service, hoping to find a way to mitigate those risks, but ultimately shuttered the service and archived the repository. Fortunately, not too long after, Tim Visée, an independent developer, forked it and began hosting an instance. He has steadfastly maintained the repository, and public instances have come and gone over the years since.
Privacy enthusiasts and nerdy devs (not a knock!) aren't known for picking the most... shall we say, "brandable"... names for their services, and as a result, many of the public instances running today have odd looking domains. Most of the time, Send is a subdomain at their personal site, and the URL generated for sharing can get some raised eyebrows from those not in the know. If you're sending a file to someone important, like your insurance agent, or the government, it's not unusual for them to decline opening the link on that basis alone.
So, forking Send and hosting it at securasend.com seemed like a no-brainer. No subdomain, a name that pretty clearly relates to what it does, and a refreshed interface... hopefully more insurance and government employees feel a bit better opening secure links.
So with that said, feel welcome and encouraged to use securasend.com to transfer files securely (just... don't ship malware or spear phish anyone... not that we'd know if you did thanks to the E2EE, but... still... don't be that person). For now, there is a 2.5GB limit; that may change in the future depending on feedback and costs, but expiration time and download limits are relatively robust. As always, you are encouraged to reach out with feedback, questions, or concerns.
| File Upload Size | Expiration Times | Download Limits |
| Up to 2.5 Gigabytes | 30 mins | 1 (default), 2, 5, 10, 100, 1000 |
While we're on the topic of tools... you may notice a new icon ( ) in the site navigation menu. That's our Tools page. It's very barebones for now, but we plan to add more here as we can build, maintain, and afford to. Requests for specific tools or software are welcome.
Happy file sharing!
